The Storm, due to its incredible growth (current rosters have players from 50 different cities and towns, and 2 states) has decided to change their name to encompass the true magnitude of geography covered. There are knock-offs of the Storm program, but we are the one who has built a solid foundation, from scratch, over 14 years! There is only one NEW ENGLAND STORM!
Generally, there are a few practices begin during the Fall, then followed with three months of sessions at Tufts University, with the consultation of Tufts head coach, Cheryl Milligan.
The tournament season runs from May into August. This includes 7 weekend tournaments (with 2 college showcases for ages U16 & U18). The large majority of tournaments are in the eastern, central, and southern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, & southern New Hampshire areas. 2014 will represent the 14th year of the Storm, which began with 1 team in 2000. Through demand, it has continued to grow in volume, with age groups from U10 – U18 included.
However, the program philosophy has not changed! The goal is still to provide quality instruction of the proper fundamentals and mechanics of fast pitch softball, taught in a positive environment. There is one consistent teaching method throughout. This helps to create a more systematic, cohesive program, where all players are being taught the same, although at each age appropriate level. Although the Storm does not focus on wins and losses, they have achieved many tournament championships, as well as attending the NSA World Series, ASA Nationals, and tournaments at Disney World, FL.
John Gambale of Swampscott, MA is the founder, director, and coach, of the Storm. The coaching staff’s of 20+ adults, have all been with the Storm for a minimum of 1 year, with some as long as 14 years, with the average being 3+ years.
